Fun Projects To Keep Grandparents and Kids Connected
May 18, 2021
The bond that grandparents and their grandkids share is strong, and time spent between them is cherished by all parties involved. However, the fun doesn’t need to end when the grandkids go home. Here are some projects that grandparents and grandkids can engage in virtually to stay connected even when they are apart.
Keep Grandparents and Kids Connected Through Books
Storytime is cherished between both grandparents and grandkids alike. Luckily, it is something that translates very well to a digital space like a smartphone, tablet, or computer screen. While distance may keep them from being able to cuddle together behind a good picture book, a grandparent and their grandchild can still read together over the phone or over FaceTime. If your grandchild is currently learning to read, you can even encourage them to read to their grandparent over the phone. Just pick a good book and connect.
Have an Arts and Crafts Session
Arts and crafts are something that is fun for all ages and can require minimal materials. Over apps like Zoom or FaceTime, a grandparent and grandchild can draw or craft together. At a minimum, each will only need a piece of paper and a writing utensil. Whether they both try to draw the same thing or simply attempt to free draw, the most fun part of this activity is them sharing their drawings with each other once they’re done. If they ever get bored of drawing, considering trying to make something out of molding clay or creating a collage out of old magazines.
Send Each Other Homemade Movies
Video messages are a great way to capture and share your daily routine. They are also a great way to keep grandparents and kids connected. Try helping your child send their grandparent short videos about what their days are like when they are not together. If the child is extra creative, they can even try making and sending short movies to their grandparents. Anything a grandparent is sent from their grandchild is sure to bring a smile to their face, and these will be great to look back on in the future.
Become Pen Pals
The most important idea here is to keep grandparents and kids connected. One great way to do this is for grandparents to become pen pals with their grandchild. This can either be through handwritten letters or digital emails. Not only is this great writing practice for the child, but it is always exciting to receive a letter in the mail or a surprise email from a loved one.
