Nursing Homes and Assisted Living
July 26, 2017One of the questions we are frequently asked is how assisted living is different from a nursing home. Nursing homes typically offer the most extensive care a person can receive outside of a hospital. Nursing homes deliver skilled nursing care, often by a registered nurse, who can provide medical monitoring and treatments. Nursing home often provide rehabilitation services designed to prepare the patient to return to independent living.
Assisted living services are usually offered in a residential environment in which the resident will reside long term or permanently. Assisted living fosters an environment of independence, providing one with a home-like living space, and opportunities to participate in social activities and outings. Residents are offered assistance with laundry, transportation, meal preparation, grooming, bathing, and dressing. Medications can also be administered.
Encore at Avalon Park is a unique Assisted Living community in that we
offer specialized care, such as our memory care program for those who have cognitive impairments. We also have an Extended Congregate Care License that allows us to administer most of the services that someone in a nursing home would need, while allowing them to reside in a vibrant home-like environment. Our highly trained staff ensures that all residents are properly cared for, ensuring your loved ones have the best of both worlds; independent living in a new, home-like, small town environment coupled with most of the medical services one would need.
