The Wonders of the Music & Memory Program

Nobody wants to see a loved one end up alone and isolated in assisted living or in a nursing home. Even at young ages, the mere thought is unsettling and saddening. Many folks have seen their family members lose who they are because of Alzheimer’s or dementia, and now there’s a new way to fight this affliction.

Our staff of caretakers are Music & Memory certified, and are helping those who suffer from cognitive impairments find memories and parts of themselves thought to be long gone through use of personalized music playlists.Avalon Park Music and Memory program

Giving the Elderly Their Lives Back Through Music

Our certified caretakers take a simple yet effective approach to memory therapy with personalized playlists that are distributed to our residents with iPods and other digital music devices. We work closely with your loved one to build a playlist that taps into memories they thought were gone forever, helping them to feel whole again. The Music & Memory program has been proven to improve confidence, reduce anxiety, and promote social behavior.

Therapeutic Benefits

Though this approach to memory therapy is relatively new, ongoing research indicates there are a multitude of benefits, including:

  • Participating residents tend to be happier and more social overall.
  • It fosters deeper relationships between residents, family, and staff.
  • The overall atmosphere in the facility is much calmer and more social.
  • Behavioral issues drop dramatically, allowing staff members to use their time more effectively.
  • A personalized music program works as a tool to help reduce the need for anti-psychotic medication.

By having a staff that is certified in the Music & Memory program, our goal is to give those who suffer from dementia and other cognitive impairments their memories and lives back.
